Some interesting charts and wheely looking things...and numbers!
Particularly interesting -
Four of the top five states for rear-drive sales are also among the five wettest states in terms of annual precipitation. The fifth-wettest state, Florida, ranks eighth in terms of rear-drive sales.

"Not a single Luxury segment favors front-drive."
wrong

Didn't know Acura was a segment leader in anything.

Does it say that somewhere in the text of the page? Looking at the smaller charts towards the bottom the luxury classes seem to have the most even split between FWD/RWD/AWD

$62k FWD "Luxury" cars are why it isn't.

They're just Hondas anywhere but North America

I was reading the picture provided in the post, didn't even click on the link.

Maybe they still don't count Acura as a luxury brand yet?
But Volvo is FWD or AWD soooooo....
C&D has had some crappy writing and crappy editing lately.

Hm yeah, not exactly sure where they're pulling that conclusion from...none of the other charts seem to back that claim up.

Well it won't be a shame if they never count Acura as a luxury brand. They probably won't be around much longer.

Bad editing is to blame here it seems

Oh? Are their new car sales dwindling? Excuse my ignorance, I just don't care for Acura and don't pay much attention to what they make anymore.

On one cares about them because their new car sales are dwindling. They're awful.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 17:27 |

So in other words, 66% of all cars sold can drive the rear wheels :p

I think by "favor" they mean greater percentage than other formats.
Luxury Compact/Subcompact: 40/35/25 (RDW/AWD/FWD)
Luxury Midsize: 44/31/25
Luxury Full size: 31/40/29
So yes, there are FWD luxury cars on the market, but they aren't outselling the other formats in any of these categories.

There is still hope left for humanity!
I'm proud to confirm that I am supporting this sentiment with 100% of my motoring decisions (1 RWD and 1 AWD).

34 + 12 != 66

I saw a few ads when watching Comedians in Cars and those commercials barely show the car at all. It's like their ashamed of what they make now. They should've kept going with the Integra/RSX type cars instead of trying to compete in a very competitive segment (BMW, Lexus, Volvo, Audi, Mercedez are all very nice luxury car brands that have established some reputation for a similar price range).

I want to see a factory lifted (maybe 3") BRZ with true 4x4, meaning a transfer case and high and low gears, a locker in the back and a lsd up front. Give it a turbocharged Boxer engine with around 350 hp. Flared fenders with bigger wheel openings and some 30" mud terrains. Yeah...

At least they're in the minority
![]() 02/20/2014 at 17:37 |

Exactly. There was once a time where they made cool, hip cars. Nowadays it's awful.

haha whoops, I didn't catch that either - the 54 is unfortunately FWD. Makes sense, I guess....at least it's good to know there's still a healthy amount of variety out there.

Is it a coincidence that FWD cars are represented by beige?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 18:02 |

oops!
Well, at least 46% is ok, right?
